Running over two days, the course has a whole load of different elements. There's no lie ins on Saturday as you'll be up and ready for a meet and greet at The Cornishman Pub. Strictly no alcohol, though! Next up is Apnea training - Diaphragm exercises, breathing training etc.Into the afternoon, and the first water session is taking place. If conditions are correct, you will be taught about using rips and board handling. Next up, health and safety! You will be explained on self rescue with or without your board as well as coming in over rocks and reefs.
After a generous hour for dinner, you start on Risk Management - Personal protection, equipment, missing person protocol etc. The final activity for the first day is learning all about some of the best big wave locations in the world. This part of the course uses resources to build information on kit, conditions, the type of wave and how other surfers tackle these waves.
After a night's rest, it's a 10am start and a group session on dealing with unexpected/serious situations. After an hour of this, you're back in the water for the final session. If conditions allow, real life big wave surfing can occur! Finally, from 1-3pm, future challenges are talked about before everyone goes their separate ways.
