Keshia Eyre Interview

It’s great to talk to you! How are you?

Hey its great to talk to you too, I'm really good thank you :)

How did you first get into surfing? I first got into surfing because of my big brother, he started quite a bit before me and wanted me to try it out, so I did and here I am.

What is your first surfing memory? My first surfing memory is the first time I surfed. I was 13 & my brother put me on a body board & pushed me on a wave and I stood up, I had the biggest smile on my face when I did and so did he.

Why do you love surfing? I think it's just the feeling I get from it and how if something isn't going well I can go out and surf and everything just seems to disappear, it clears my head. Surfing always puts a smile on my face, plus it makes me really happy when I'm surfing with my brothers, Luis and Klaus, or my friends.

Who inspires you? My brother Luis Eyre and Carissa Moore.

The first thing you see if you search Keshia Eyre is your Instagram account. Do you find Instagram suits the lifestyle you lead? Yes I do because it's such an easy way to keep people up to date with what I'm doing, plus I like taking lots of photos and being artsy with them so it's nice to be able to share that with people.

Have you done much travelling? Where have you been and where was your favourite?

Over the past few years I've done lots of travelling due to all of the contests I do. It's hard to pick one but I do love going to Cali because I have quite a few friends there and it's a really nice place.

What hobbies do you have away from surfing? I'm never really away from surfing haha but I do love baking cakes and making all sorts of desserts. Or going to my brother's Surf Lodge Surfiberia and helping out with lessons, or just spending time with him and my friends on the beach :)

Tell us about your biggest surfing achievement? My biggest achievement was winning the European junior title, it was one of the best days ever!

So what’s next for you then? My next trip is over to England for 2 events of the UK pro surf tour and then the day after I head off to El Salvador for a WQS.

What do you love/hate the most about surfing?

I love how much fun it is - hate putting on a wet wetsuit when it's freezing haha

Where’s your favourite surf spot? My favourite spots for sure are Coxos or Ribeira (both Portugal), they're both fun right handers and they're in my howetown which is great.

Was it always surfing for you? No I only started surfing at 13 and even at then I wasn't that into it. I was really into horse riding and even used to do contests.

What’s the state of women’s surfing right now? All the girls are surfing really well now, the level has gone up loads and has changed a lot in the last few years.

If you could change anything about women’s surfing, what would it be? I'd probably add more events to the tour seeing as though we have less than the guys. I would also put it in some spots that aren't mainly beach breaks.

Who else on the girls scene is ripping it up right now? Tatiana Weston-Webb, she's one of my best friends is doing really well on tour

Thanks , it’s been a pleasure!
