“The appropriate shoes for men aged 25 years and older would be monks, oxfords, derbies, and loafers. Grown men also wear button up shirts and polos. NOT short sleeve t-shirts with logos, wife beaters, sports jerseys and other low brow immature styles.”
I am gobsmacked! I'm 25 years of age and I religiously wear converse whether in the office, at the gym and even at weddings and I am appalled to have found the above posted on a forum. Who is to determine what other people should wear? If I make it to 100, my chucks will still be right there with me. Converse has been making sneakers since 1917 and Chucks have been around since 1927 when Charles "Chuck" Taylor signed on with Converse in 1923 and as far as I am concerned they are as classic a look as the wintips of “Gucci” loafer and here's why:
Affordable
You Don't have to break the bank and spend hundreds of pounds to wear converse shoes, unlike Oxfords, derbies and loafers which are usually manufactured with leather, which is generally more expensive than the typical converse shoe. Converse shoes can be picked up for relatively cheap.
Personality
Converse shoes come in many different styles and colours. whether your at the gym, skating or wanting to throw something casual on, converse shoes speak volumes compared to plain boring shoes. Many people even decorate their converse shoes with cool patterns and cultural references which in turn defines character.
Comfort
Converse shoes don't have a fixed shape, the material is light and it molds around the shape of your foot which is perfect for comfort, unlike the average shoe that take time to break in to feel comfortable.
Durability
If your looking for a shoe that lasts, wear anywhere and is easy to clean, then converse shoes never fail. Everybody wears converse no matter which trend your following you'll see that converse shoes are à la mode. You can keep them clean easily by throwing them in the washing machine or even try this strange yet simple way to clean your converse.
My opinion
There is no age limit on what is appropriate attire. Occasion, weather or situation are the only things I think should be considered when dressing for the day. People dress for comfort or how they feel. And they have all the right to. And if I am unimpressed with their choice, then I don't have to hope that they don't mind mine.
PS: I am sat in the office writing up this post in my white All Star Converse Low Tops, black skinny jeans and a white baggy tee.
