Shopping for Goggles? Here's How To Find The Perfect Pair!

We understand that selecting the perfect ski goggles isn’t always easy. There are so many different shapes, fits and lens types that it can seem quite overwhelming. We therefore decided that now was a good time to offer you a hand and create a little ‘howto’ on picking the right ski goggles for you!

There are many things to take into consideration before buying your ski goggles and here is our list that will hopefully make things a little easier for you:

  1. Start shopping for your Ski Goggles early! Don’t leave it until you get to the mountain before buying. The earlier you begin looking, the higher chance you’ll have of finding the correct pair for your snowy adventures.
  1. If you’re unsure what anything means, ask about it! There are professionals all over the world that are willing to help you find the correct pair of goggles to keep you safe on the slopes. At urbansurfer.co.uk we have a live chat that is active between 9am and 5pm everyday to answer all of your ski goggle related questions.
  1. Consider your slope. Where is it that you are skiing/snowboarding? Will it be sunny? Overcast? Foggy? Will you be hitting the slopes during the day or at evening and nighttime? These are all things you need to take into account before selecting your goggles as you need to ensure that the lenses aren’t too light or too dark for your requirements.
  1. So what type of lens should you be buying? There are many different lenses, tinted, not tinted, polarised, prescription... It can seem pretty overwhelming trying to decide which ones are best for you and your needs. However once you get your head around what lenses do what, picking out your ideal ski goggles should be a doddle. (Check out our other post on picking the correct lens for your goggles HERE.)
  1. ALWAYS look for lenses with protection from Ultraviolet (UV) light. The sun’s rays can be very damaging to the eyes so it is extremely important to ensure that your coverage is full.
  1. It is also important to check your peripheral vision if your vision is at all restricted this could make for a dangerous day on the slopes!
  1. Finally, this may seem like an obvious point, but you really must make sure that your goggles fit both with and without a helmet. They are there to protect you and won’t be able to do that if they are ill fitting.
These seven things to remember seem pretty obvious, but it’s easy to forget them if you see a pair of goggles you find visually appealing. Just remember, goggles are there to protect you, not just from the sun, but from wind causing watering eyes and blurred vision as well as ice, snow and other bits of nature flying into your eyes while on the mountain!
